HIGH PASS FILTERS ("HPF") are useful where interference is arising from a range of frequencies, and where the exact interfering frequency is unknown.

NOTCH FILTERS are tuned to a specific frequency band and are ideal in circumstances where the interfering frequency is known and is the only source of trouble.

A NOTE ABOUT BRAID BREAKERS: interference can enter the receiver in a variety of ways: through the centre conductor of the co-axial feeder cable, along the braid of the cable, via mains cables, and direct pick-up through the cabinet. If interference is being carried along the feeder braid, then it can be attenuated by using a tuned trap or RF transformer in the braid circuit. Some of the "Blackline" filters incorporate a Braid Breaker. The dedicated Braid Breaker model BB1 can be cascaded with any filter which does not have its own braid breaker.

HPFS: this is the general purpose "cure most" filter incorporating a RF transformer Braid Breaker. Attenuates HF and VHF interference.

HPF-1: similar specification to the HPFS, the Braid Breaker comprises an HPF in inner and outer conductors. Lower insertion loss than the HPFS, more suitable for mild cases of interference.

HPF-2: cut-off frequency below 88MHz, specifically designed for use with Band II receivers. Equally suitable for use with TV receivers and VCR's to attenuate HF interference, e.g. CB and HF Amateur Radio.

HPF-6: a very high specification filter with sharp cut-off below 450MHz. Particularly useful for dealing with TETRA and 70cm Amateur Radio transmissions.

The TNF-2 SERIES is produced in a wide variety of frequencies covering Amateur, CB and Commercial radio bands. They are specifically tuned during manufacture to cover a particular frequency band, for example:

TNF-2 (14MHz), TNF-2 (21MHz), TNF-2 (27.5MHz),

TNF-2 (28MHz), TNF-2 (50MHz), TNF-2 (70MHz), TNF-2 (145MHz)

TNF-2 (435MHz), RBF-1 (a notch filter specially designed for use with VCR's troubled by RADAR "blips").

BRAID BREAKER BB-1 a stand-alone RF transformer, to be used where interference is carried on the braid only, or in cascade with a filter which does not incorporate a braid breaker.
