Helical aerials ("rubber duckies") are compact and convenient, but they are very lossy. A full length ¼ wave can be 8 – 10dB better than a helical.
For the occasions when a longer whip can be tolerated, there is a whole new world of signals to be captured with a more efficient aerial. The effective radiated power of a transmitter is also greatly improved.
The GAREX Flexible Aerials have a springy core covered with nylon to strike the right balance between flexibility and robustness. They are mounted on a co-axial plug; versions on all common plugs are either stock lines or readily made to order.
GAREX Flexible Aerials are available right across the VHF & UHF bands from 68MHz upwards. (experimental flexiwhips can be made for 50-52MHz). Production method limitations mean that the maximum available length is 20" (51cm).This allows full length ¼ waves from 130MHz upwards. Below this frequency we offer COMPRESSED ¼ WAVES for the lower VHF bands. These employ centre-loading for optimum efficiency and may be up to 20" (51cm) long.
COMPRESSED 1/4 WAVES are also available for frequencies above 130MHz where a shorter length is desirable.
Because of the wide range of frequencies and connectors which can be produced, the following price list shows only a small selection.
